Have you ever purchased a new shirt and attempted to sublimate it with a heat press? If so, you are aware of the importance of How to remove sublimation ink from shirt. However, if you don’t know how to remove sublimation ink from a shirt, it can be a time-consuming operation.
Everyone has made a printing mistake, but with this form of printing, the margin for error is almost zero, which is why individuals frequently do not know how to rectify their mistakes.
If you do not know how to get sublimation ink out of a shirt, do not panic; there is a way for removing sublimation ink from clothes even with a small margin. I have described the procedure in great detail so that you may correct the error and get rid of the unsightly uneven splotch of ink.
Sublimation ink is a type of ink that is used to create sublimation prints. This ink is not put directly onto the cloth; rather, it is added to the printer and then used to print a picture. A heat press is then used to transfer the image to a piece of fabric.
The dye is present in a powdered form on the paper in sublimation ink, and it is transferred to the fabric by the pressure and heat from the heat press.
Is it Possible to Remove Sublimation Ink?
Everyone who has used the sublimation printing method has encountered a situation in which they mistakenly printed the wrong part, or the ink was spilled on the cloth, and you are now stuck with this mistake.
This does not only happen to inexperienced printers; even the most experienced printers might make a mistake while utilizing the sublimation printing method, then people search for ways how to fix a sublimation mistake on a shirt. There are a few ways to remove sublimation ink from anything.
How to Remove Sublimation Ink From Shirt:
Method No. 1:
There are two methods for how to remove sublimation ink from polyester fabric. The first approach for removing sublimation ink from fabric involves a few steps. To begin, you will need a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol and a clean towel.
Apply a little amount of rubbing alcohol to the region where the sublimation ink has accidentally spread; then, press that moist area with a clean cloth to lift and remove the ink. Repeat this method until the sublimation ink stain is entirely erased.
Method No. 2:
There is another solution to the problem of how to remove sublimation ink from a shirt. The second way of eliminating sublimation ink stains from fabric takes much longer than the first. This strategy is typically used for larger errors. Aluminum foil, polymer crystals, denatured alcohol, water, paper towels, and an iron are also required for this method.
Step 1: The first step is to spread a couple of layers of aluminum foil on the table or the floor, depending on where you are working. This will aid in keeping the working environment clean. You should also have a little fan so that instead of waiting hours for the fabric to dry, it dries quickly.
Step 2: Then, grab a container and fill it with denatured alcohol, then dip the fabric in it. Make sure the stained portion of the fabric is thoroughly submerged in the bowl. Allow the cloth to soak in the solution for 15 to 20 minutes. This will ensure that the sublimation ink is partly broken down, making it easier to remove without affecting the cloth.
Step 3: After the cloth has been in the solution for 15 minutes, remove it from the container of denatured alcohol. Take a couple of paper towels and gently pat the fabric between them. Repeat this process until all of the liquid has been absorbed into the paper towels and removed from the fabric.
Step 4: Iron the cloth with a hot iron after adding a few more layers of paper towels over and under it. You must avoid using the iron on its highest setting, as this will only damage the fabric. Also, remember not to press too firmly with the hot iron. Continue to move the paper towels beneath the iron.
Step 5: When you’ve finished the fourth step and the fabric is entirely dry, put it in aluminum foil and iron it for a few minutes. Then, in a container, combine some polymer crystals with some denatured alcohol and thoroughly mix them.
After that, use a damp paper towel and dab it lightly. Then soak it in the polymer solution before patting it onto the fabric. This entire process will ensure that not only is the sublimation ink stain removed, but that the fabric remains intact so that you can work on it again in the future.
Remove Sublimation Ink From Heat Press:
Warm, soapy water is the first thing you can do to remove sublimation ink from the heat press. The level of success you will have depends mainly on how long the ink has been on the press and how well it is baked on.
Remove sublimation ink from ceramic mug:
If you want to know how to remove sublimation ink from ceramic mug, you’ve to run it in the dishwasher many times at a high temperature. Some particles from the previous design may persist, but most of them should be gone within a few cycles. In order to remove sublimation inks from mugs, this procedure involves less effort although more patience.
Remove sublimation ink from metal tumblers:
The following method can be used to remove sublimation ink from metal tumblers:
- Fill a dish with white vinegar large enough to submerge the printed area of a metal tumbler.
- Submerge the printed area of the tumbler in water for approximately 90 minutes.
- After that, scrub the color with a scouring pad, being careful not to rub too hard as this can create scratches.
- If there is any remaining dye, submerge it in the vinegar and rub it for a few minutes until the ink is entirely erased.
Remove Sublimation Ink From Mugs:
Vinegar can be used to remove sublimation ink from mugs, and this method has been tried and tested.
- Fill the container full with white vinegar.
- Dip the Mug in the white Vinegar, pattern sided
- Before proceeding, ensure that it is completely submerged.
- Allow for a minimum of 30 minutes in the bowl.
- After 30 minutes, remove the cup and scrape the design with a scraper to loosen it up.
- Submerge the Mug in water for another 30 minutes.
- If it starts to fall off, that’s wonderful news. If it continues to resist, soak it in white vinegar for a longer period of time.
- When the timer goes off, take out the kitchen scrubber and clean up the ink.
- Depending on your sublimation print, both solution and scrubbing will remove the ink.
- Remove the Mug from the bowl after an hour (most likely), and Bam! Now you have a simple mug with no design or marking.
The downside of this technique is that you will get your Mug, but the sublimation ink design will be browned or burnt, and the surface will not be completely smooth.

This gives it more time to remove any remaining ink.
